Day 1: 2025 Playa del Carmen - Travel Day

Day 1: MSP > YUL > CUN

After hustling to Minneapolis after work on Wednesday, we spent the night at Collin’s cousin, Shalee’s place. Got up at 5am on Thursday for our 6:00am Uber to find out that our flight had been pushed back to 10:00am… we decided to stick with the plan and just get there early.

Early arrival meant time for mimosas and breakfast beers!
First flight was more comfortable than I remembered flying! Collin was even pretty comfortable, which says a lot for someone with a stature of 6’5”! (Thankful for all of this as it was the christening of his travel bug! First flight, first time out of 'merica... so glad it was all so fun!)

Customs in Montréal was unreal. We scanned our passports - had nearly no human interaction and entered the airport. It was weird.
Love me some quirky communication!
Had to get poutine!!!! We took in our options and went with door #3. It was delicious. We were told Quebec has their own dairy farmers and that poutine is very hard to recreate from there. We added chicken for some protein and were very happy with our choice. Our bartender/waitress was adorable and helpful and curious and I could have packed her up and taken her with us. We would like to return one day to explore the city!

The next leg of our trip was less impressive: bigger plane, but smaller seats; beer was no longer complimentary 😬🫠; it was a much longer flight… we were happy to arrive in Cancún, and/but after more than 24 hours of travel, we didn’t have it in us to navigate the local public transportation. Paid all the dollars for a taxi and made it to our final destination: Soul Beach Luxury Hôtel.

Beautiful baths and bathing locations are always the selling point for me. Unfortunately, I only put it to use once... we were too busy and it takes a while to fill a tub this big!
I was a little critical of all the little things, but after a chat with Dad, I was reminded that we were in Mexico and the most important boxes were checked: the room was peaceful, it was quiet, it was clean, the water got hot (with a little patience!), there were no critters, and the location was really great.

I don't know how many photos of this mural I took, but I was (and still am, I suppose) pretty enamored by it!
