Day 2: work those legs and get familiar with Playa del Carmen!

We woke up Thursday and had the intention of going to “The Mega” (local supermarket) upon my mother's suggestion, but weren’t as close as they would have been and didn’t have utensils or a kitchen to prepare anything with! She and Dad had also mentioned that there were food trucks in the parking lot there with fantastic local cheap tacos and other yummy items, but they were nowhere to be found. (Mom and Dad haven't been to PdC since before the pandemic.) So, after a call to dad and a new Canadian friend, we found ourselves at our new favorite cafe: Choux Choux Café and Bistro. Collin got Chilaquiles and I got toast (I think it was French toast!) with melted goat cheese, bacon, and honey on it… both were out of this world. Collin also go a watermelon slushie and I got a ginger lemonade. Total yum, 18/10 - can’t wait to go back.

What a total cutie rockin' his Green Door attire. 😍

Another suggestion Mom and Dad had was to get a couples massage at Veronica's - we did just that! For the steal of a deal of $1300 MXN / $73 USD (for both of us!!!)! After flying and walking through airports it was extra refreshing. I, especially, was dehydrated and kind of physically miserable upon landing and the relaxation and TLC really helped to right my ailments.

We were a little late to the game finding the pool at our hotel - we found it after being there for a day, but just a few hours before a massive downpour. Lovely view! Unfortunately, we can’t tell you about the pool itself…
Couldn’t resist a great photo opp on 5th Ave!

Had a yummy taco dinner at Mi Jardin Secreto (fish tacos for Lauren and ribeye with pork rinds for Collin) along with cervesa and fresh juice. Notice the 3D chickens on the wall behind me…!
Beautiful and bustling 5th Ave at night!
Beautiful Catholic Cathedral at the end (of perhaps the beginning!) of 5th Avenue in Playa del Carmen. "Nuestra Senora del Carmen".

Portal Maya Statue made of bronze and commemorates the end of the Mayan calendar. From my research before we visited, this is an icon of Playa del Carmen. It's a beautiful piece representing their heritage and the games played in their ancient Mayan history.
